Privacy Policy

Last updated: 16 October 2026

In short

Recito works on your Mac. Your books, notes, reading positions and the voices stay on your Mac and are never sent to us.

We process only the small amount of data needed to sell and license Recito Pro, deliver updates, and answer bug reports you choose to send.

Who is responsible

The controller of your data is Aleksander Morawski, an individual based in Poland. Contact: [email protected].

Buying Recito Pro

Dodo Payments handles your purchase as Merchant of Record and processes your payment details under its own privacy policy. We never see your card details.

We receive your email address, the purchase reference and what you bought, and use them to create your license and email you the key.

Your license and your Macs

When you activate Recito Pro, and when the app renews its license about once a week, it sends our license server your license key, a device identifier and your Mac's name.

  • The device identifier is a one-way hash of your Mac's hardware ID. It cannot be turned back into the hardware ID and is used only by Recito.
  • Your Mac's name (as set in System Settings) is stored so a license can tell your Macs apart.
  • We also store the operating system and when each Mac was activated and last checked in.
  • License keys are stored only as a one-way hash.

Emails

License keys and key-recovery emails are sent through Resend, our email provider. If you ask to recover a key, we email it to the address on the license; the website gives the same answer whether or not an address has a license.

Bug reports

Only if you send a report from the app, we receive your description, your email address if you give one, and diagnostics: the app version, system and browser-engine details, your language, whether you have Recito Pro, how much of today's free listening you have used, and, only if you tick the option, recent app logs, which can include technical details such as file names.

Reports are emailed to us through Resend and used only to fix the problem.

The free trial

The daily listening counter of the free trial is kept on your Mac. It is not sent to us, except as part of a bug report you send.

Updates and voice downloads

To check for and download updates, the app contacts this website and GitHub, which hosts the update files. The voices are downloaded once from Hugging Face the first time you use them. Like any download, these requests show your IP address to those services; we do not collect anything else through them.

This website

recito.xyz uses no analytics, advertising or tracking cookies. It remembers two choices in your browser: your language (cookie recito-lang, kept for a year) and your appearance setting (recito-theme, in local storage and a cookie, kept for a year).

Our hosting and network providers process IP addresses to deliver the site and protect it from abuse.

Service providers

We use these providers to run Recito:

  • Dodo Payments: payments, tax and receipts (Merchant of Record);
  • Resend: sending emails;
  • OVHcloud: hosting our servers, in Canada;
  • Cloudflare: delivering and protecting the website and the license server;
  • GitHub: hosting app updates;
  • Hugging Face: hosting the voice models.

Transfers outside the EEA

Some of these providers process data outside the European Economic Area, for example in Canada or the United States. Such transfers rely on an adequacy decision of the European Commission or on other safeguards the law requires, such as standard contractual clauses.

Legal bases

We process your data:

  • to perform our contract with you: delivering, activating and renewing your license, and sending license emails;
  • for our legitimate interests: preventing misuse of licenses, keeping our services secure, and answering support requests;
  • with your consent: the optional email address and logs in a bug report. You can withdraw consent at any time.

How long we keep data

License and purchase records are kept while the license exists, and afterwards only as long as needed to handle disputes or meet legal obligations. A Mac's record is deleted when you deactivate it or when its place is freed automatically. Bug reports are deleted once the problem is resolved.

Your rights

You can ask us for access to your data, to correct or delete it, to restrict or object to its processing, and for a copy in a portable format. Write to [email protected]. Deleting your license data ends the license.

You can also complain to a data protection authority. In Poland, that is the President of the Personal Data Protection Office (UODO).

Children

Recito is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their data.

Changes to this policy

We update this page when what we process changes; the date at the top shows the current version.
